SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS | MOVIE REVIEW | SYLVIA PARK

Shazam! And the dirt is gone…or in this case the evil sisters of Atlas.
Shazam! And the Fury of the Gods, directed by David F. Sandberg continues the story of the main character Billy Batson and his foster family fighting justice.
I really enjoyed this movie; it ticked all the boxes! Fantastic fight scenes, cheesy romantic scenes plus the all-important family bonding time. I loved the dynamic bond the movie portrays between Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and the rest of his foster family. It really warms my heart how these foster kids come from all different backgrounds, but they have such a close bond. I find in a lot of other movies you see the foster kid system is deemed as “every kid for himself” so it was refreshing to see a change of pace in this regard.

Well, with superheroes you must always have an evil to fight against them, right? One of my favorite characters in this movie is Kalypso played by Lucy Liu. As we all know she is a much-loved character in the Charlie’s Angels movies, so it was so great to see the other side of her – as the villain rather than the crime fighter.
Another aspect of this movie that makes it so popular is the special effects – in particular all the scenes with the lightning effects. The scenery and the lighting were so well done – it really gave you that wow effect!

Shazam! The Fury of the Gods didn’t let the romance between Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) and Anthea (Rachel Zegler) take over the whole movie, which was a relief. Yeah, some parts were kinda cheesy, but they were done pretty well, and they didn’t distract from the main storyline. It’s nice to see a flick that has a little bit of romance without it being the main event. Hopefully, other movies take note!
I highly recommend this movie to all ages, it’s a fantastic family movie and I encourage all you parents out there, to take your kids along – they will love it!
