THE SUICIDE SQUAD | MOVIE REVIEW | SYLVIA PARK

Right from the first action sequence you are in a world of chaos, well-coordinated, blood bath chaos.

Welcome to hell–a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate and where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out–even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X.

This time, Amanda Waller’s assembly of cons, includes Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favourite psycho, Harley Qui for this Super-secrect, need to know mission; Find and Destroy, at any cost.

With only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears tracking their every movement, and with one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself), the body count quickly rises.

The movie is, among other things, a splatter comedy of depraved sensationalism, with heads and bodies getting torn up, lopped off, and reduced to mush and mess. There are rats (a whole lot of them), bullets dicey enough to shoot through other bullets, along with the fact that while our heroes have powers, most of them aren’t all that super.

(L-R) JOEL KINNAMAN as Colonel Rich Flag, IDRIS ELBA as Bloodsport and JOHN CENA as Peacemaker in Warner Bros. Pictures’ superhero action adventure “THE SUICIDE SQUAD,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

Taking a well needed different approach to the first Suicide Squad movie, there was a lot less talk about back stories and a lot more straight in to the action with back stories peppered throughout at key times that means you don’t feel like you missed on out on getting to know the characters and garner a little sympathy for them.  A personal favourite of ours was King Shark – all I can say is wait for the moustache moment…

If you want a no holds barred, fun, action filled movie that pulls all the punches (and knives, and guns and interdimensional viruses) then Suicide Squad will not disappoint.
