BEDROOM SANCTUARY | WESTGATE LIFESTYLE
Lifestyle03 June 2021
Wintertime is a perfect season for house projects according to a radio advertisement I heard the other day. That ad writer may well have been having a sneak view at my home as there is indeed a project underway.
Hubby and I have recently become empty nesters and it finally seemed a good time to titivate a bedroom or two. The painter has been called and waved his transformational paintbrush around. The room was last painted about 17 years ago to suit a young boy. While I have framed some of his art, kept his bookcase and an old primary school desk (utilised as a bedside table) and retained a masculine look to the room, it can now boast a touch of the sophisticated. Oh, and it’s tidy too! I am thrilled.
My shopping for this project has included a new bedside lamp, rug, throw, frames, a basket for extra storage, a masculine-scented (tabak and cedarwood) diffuser, and a new bedcover. I haven’t quite finished as I am still eyeing up the Woolrest NZ wool blankets at Bed Bath & Beyond and checking out headboards, which are available in various stores at Westgate Lifestyle (at this stage I simply have European pillows propped up at the top of the bed.)
I didn’t blow the budget, but it looks a million dollars. And so, this blog has a bedroom makeover focus. It’s a timely project as, in the process, I have snugged up the room for winter. Interior decorators tell us ways to winter-up a bedroom include adding timber touches, including a big rug, using lamps for ambience (or even fairy lights around a mirror), consider an upholstered headboard, and layer up the bed with throws. Follow some of this advice and you’ll be wrapped in a comfortable cocoon, oblivious to plummeting temperatures.
Tackling such a project may just be a great way to spend your upcoming Queen’s Birthday weekend. Just a thought!
